Please join our brothers from the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Alec Campbell, Division 1, Carbon County, as we commemorate the Day of the Rope, marking the 145th anniversary of the execution of the Molly Maguires on June 21, 1877 in Mauch Chunk, (now Jim Thorpe) PA.  On that day in June, in the Carbon County prison, four men, Alec Campbell, John “Yellow Jack” Donahue, Michael Doyle and Edward Kelly were simultaneously hanged, prosecuted by the Coal Mine attorneys and convicted by the Coal Mine’s Judge.  The only thing provided by the County was the jail.

On that same day in 1877, another six men faced the same fate at Pottsville in Schuylkill County. They were James Boyle, James Carroll, Thomas Duffy, Hugh McGeehan, Thomas Munley and James Roarity.

In commemoration of the events, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated under the gallows in the Old Jail Museum at 10:00 am, in remembrance of those who were unjustly executed.
